The Midlands Net Zero Hub has been working with local authority partners and consultants at Klere to support the development of innovative, area‑based carbon insetting solutions across the region. The project has built on the success of Shropshire Council’s demonstrator, which uses pyrolysis to convert green waste into biochar and renewable energy, generating verified Carbon Removal Certificates (CORCs) while creating a scalable circular economy model. Klere and the four local authorities have been looking to:
- Assess local carbon insetting opportunities and feedstock analysis.
- Develop tailored case studies and investable business cases.
- Establish governance models and explore potential joint ventures.
- Contribute to national guidance to support wider adoption of carbon insetting approaches.
