The Energy Project Enabling Fund

The second round of our Energy Project Enabling Fund (EPEF) closed to applications on 16th June 2023.

The fund provides grants to eligible organisations looking to develop and deliver local energy projects for communal or public benefit.

  • Grants of £50,000 to £100,000 were available to eligible organisations to deliver local energy projects.
  • Grants of £10,000 to £50,000 were also available to eligible organisations to complete development works preparing local
    energy projects for delivery.

This funding has been provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero as part of their commitment to the Local Net Zero Hubs and has been allocated by the NEY Net Zero Hub to facilitate the development and delivery of local energy projects in the North East and Yorkshire region.

All successful projects must be completed, and funding drawn down, by the end of March 2024. Check back here for details of successful projects.

The Hub hosted a series of webinars for interested organisations. If you missed them, you can access the slides here NEY Net Zero Hub EPEF webinar 03.05.23 and the webinar recording below.

EPEF Investment Panel

As part of its commitment to ensuring a robust appraisal process that leads to the most effective allocation of EPEF funding, the Hub has recruited an EPEF Investment Panel of independent advisors. The role of the Investment Panel is to provide expertise and challenge during the assessment of applications, helping to shape recommendations to the Hub’s Board. The Panel brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge and their input will help the Hub to optimise the fund’s potential outputs and outcomes.

In October 2022, seventeen successful Energy Project Enabling Fund Projects were offered a combined grant award of £422,295.90, with an additional two projects being offered funding in November, resulting in an overall grant offer of £476,449.90 across nineteen successful EPEF projects. The additional £76,449.90 above the original grant pot of £400,000 was sourced from the Hub’s budget to ensure a wide range of the strongest proposals could be supported.
