The North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub has published it’s 2026 Annual Report, which details how in the last 12 months we have:

Contributed to the development of 60 local projects – which could bring over £300m of private investment to the region, as well as more than 14,000 jobs.

Supported 136 community groups – with 23 projects receiving a combined £1m of funding.

Reduced the energy costs of some public buildings by almost half – saving £1.6m across the region.

Made over 3000 homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run (1000 more than target)
This year’s report is called “Energising Communities”, highlighting the work of the Hubs to support delivery of the government’s Net Zero Participation Strategy “Energising Britain”.
From solar-powered football to Net Zero ice cream, the communities of the North East and Yorkshire are taking control of their energy like never before, with more and more natural energy being used where it is generated and more and more local people seeing and feeling the benefits.
This could be why the government chose Bradford as the centre of a day of national celebration of the role of communities in Britain’s move to homegrown energy.
Like this report, the Energising Britain event showcased the incredible work happening in the cities, towns and villages of the North East and Yorkshire, by local authorities, private businesses and communities themselves – and we know of at least one new project which has got underway because of the event!
