The next phase of community energy: supermarkets and warehouses

This workshop hosted by the Energy Learning Network and Ethex, will explore how community-funded solar can transform supermarkets into sustainability anchors: cutting costs, reducing emissions, and giving customers the chance to co-own the clean energy infrastructure above their heads and beneath their feet.
What will be explored:
- Solar at scale – Why supermarket and warehouse rooftops are the perfect sites for affordable, high-impact solar.
- Beyond rooftops – EV charging, shared mobility, battery storage, and circular economy systems powered by community investment.
- Customers as co-owners – How Community Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) allow shoppers to fund and benefit from clean energy.
- A national opportunity – The role of supermarkets in scaling community energy from niche projects to a mainstream movement.
