The Local Net Zero Hubs – let by the North West Net Zero Hub – have published new Communications and Engagement Best Practice guidance designed to support public bodies, regional organisations and community groups in delivering clearer, more confident and more inclusive engagement on net zero.
Public bodies are increasingly being asked to engage communities on complex issues in ways that build trust, reflect local priorities and empower people to shape decisions about their future, and the guidance provides:
• A definition of engagement and communications and how they differ
• Principles for fair, democratic and collaborative engagement
• A review of methods including surveys, assemblies and community panels
• Advice for choosing the right engagement approach
• Frameworks for planning, delivering and evaluating engagement
• Insights on storytelling and crafting locally relevant climate messages
• Practical guidance for integrating engagement across organisational processes
