As you may have seen, the Government has announced that it will be committing no further investment for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme beyond currently awarded projects.
All currently awarded projects in the scheme remain fully funded.
The North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub’s Public Estate Decarbonisation team is on hand to assist public sector organisations with the reduction of costs and carbon emissions from the heating and powering of their buildings and estates and the meeting of local targets.
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme has provided essential funding to assist with the decarbonisation of buildings across the country.
However, there is still a national Net Zero target, interim emissions reduction targets and legally binding carbon budgets in place and the Hubs are focusing on opportunities to strengthen the public sector’s approach to estate decarbonisation off the back of this announcement.
It is possible to achieve an estimated 20% annual cost and carbon savings without large capital investment through effective strategies, efficiency measures and data-driven decision marking, and this will be a central part of the team’s support going forward.
We will also be helping organisations develop alternative funding models for building decarbonisation projects.

The Hub also offers local authorities a wide range of support to help them meet local targets, including help with project development and aggregation, links into community energy pathways and Heat Network zoning.
