The North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub is inviting applications from experienced professionals to join its Board, helping to shape the decisions which will deliver clean power and energy‑efficient homes across the region.
This is an opportunity to play a strategic role at a pivotal time, as the Hub supports the delivery of government priorities such as the Local Power Plan and the Warm Homes Plan, the development of Great British Energy and providing cleaner, more secure and more affordable energy for communities and local economic growth.
The Hub is looking to appoint new independent board members who can bring specialist expertise and insight, particularly in:
- Commercial funding, financial asset management and capital infrastructure delivery
- Local and community‑led power generation, such as solar and onshore wind
The Hub welcomes applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, as part of its commitment to strengthening local energy capacity and ensuring inclusive decision‑making.
Funded by government, the Hub is part of a network of Local Net Zero Hubs in England, working alongside local authorities, community organisations and key stakeholders to develop investable clean energy projects across the North East and Yorkshire.
By accelerating the delivery of locally owned and locally driven projects, the Hub supports the region’s ambition for clean growth—unlocking inward investment, creating green jobs, improving energy security and ensuring communities benefit directly from the transition to net zero.
Board members provide strategic oversight and advice, working collectively with the Hub team to support effective delivery. Responsibilities include:
- Offering constructive challenge and ensuring strong governance
- Scrutinising projects, funding decisions and risks
- Supporting collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region
- Championing the Hub’s work through professional networks
Board members help set direction and guide decision‑making to ensure projects align with both local priorities and national objectives.
Applicants should live and/or work within the North East and Yorkshire region and must not be employees of partner Combined Authorities. The role is not remunerated, though reasonable travel expenses for in‑person meetings will be reimbursed.
Board members are expected to attend meetings every two months, typically held on Tuesday afternoons, with a mix of online and in‑person sessions. In addition, two in‑person Board Away Days are held each year.
Those interested in applying are encouraged to review the Board Terms of Reference
To be considered, applicants should complete and submit an Expression of Interest by May 31st 2026
